BlackBerry Unlocking Instructions

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: If you have a BlackBerry that has both CDMA or HSPA and GSM technology and want to use your phone with a specific carrier, you may have to use these instructions to connect to that carrier.

OS6 or below instructions:
You must first have your phone fully unlocked.
1. In the device options, click Mobile Network or Manage Connections.
2. Perform one of the following actions:
     * To connect to CDMA networks only, set the Network Technology field to 1XEV.
     * To connect to either a GSM or CDMA network, set the Network Technology field to Global.
     * To connect to GSM networks only, set the Network Technology field to GSM/UMTS. Set the Network Mode field (it is recommended that you set the Network Mode field to 3G & 2G).
3. Press the Menu key.
4. Click Save.

OS6 or above instructions:
You must first have your phone fully unlocked.
1. Select the Network Connections bar on the homescreen (where you see the clock, date, etc).
2. Select Mobile Network Options.
3. Select the Network Selection Mode menu.
4. Select Manual (your phone will scan for available networks).
5. Select the mobile carrier you wish to use.
6. Exit the menu.

FOR CANADIAN BLACKBERRYS: If you have a Blackberry 9000, 9100, 9300, 9360, 9380, 9700, 9780, 9790, 9800, 9810, 9860, or 9900 from BELL/VIRGIN MOBILE, TELUS/KOODO, ROGERS/FIDO, MOBILICITY, VIDEOTRON, or WIND. Please click "Answer" for more informaton.

If your phone is CURRENTLY LOCKED to BELL/VIRGIN MOBILE, TELUS/KOODO, or ROGERS/FIDO, you will be able to use your phone with BELL/VIRGIN MOBILE, TELUS/KOODO, ROGERS/FIDO, or any domestic/ international GSM carrier once unlocked.

If your phone is CURRENTLY LOCKED to MOBILICITY, VIDEOTRON, or WIND, you will be able to use your phone with MOBILICITY, ROGERS/FIDO, VIDEOTRON, WIND, or any domestic/ international GSM carrier once unlocked.

Your MOBILICITY, VIDEOTRON, or WIND Blackberry WILL NOT work with BELL/VIRGIN MOBILE or TELUS/KOODO as the frequencies are different. As well, your BELL/VIRGIN MOBILE, TELUS/KOODO, or ROGERS/FIDO Blackberry WILL NOT work with MOBILICITY, VIDEOTRON, or WIND as the frequencies are different.

All other models not listed above that are unlocked will only work with GSM carriers in canada (Rogers, Fido, etc) or international GSM carriers.


Carrier Specific Instructions (Note: If your carrier/model is not listed please go to the next section):

TELUS CANADA - BlackBerry 9300 and 9700

Note: A SIM card does not need to be inserted during the unlocking process.

OS6 or below instructions:
1) Turn off/Disable all connections (Bluetooth, WIFI and Network communications). The menu is located under Manage Communications.
2) Go to Settings
3) Go to Options
4) Go to Advanced Options
5) Go to SIM Card
6) Type "mepd" (please note that you will not see what you type on the screen). With some blackberrys you may have to type mepd in capital letters (MEPD). A new menu should drop down. If your phone is locked you will see "Active" or "Enabled" beside "Service Provider".
6) Type: "mep4" (Hold ALT and press 4 to get the number 4) (Please note that you will NOT see what you type on the screen). Note: On the right hand side of the prompt you will see "X left", where X is the number of tries you have left to enter the code. NEVER let this number go below 4. Once you get to 0 your phone will be hard-locked.
7) It will ask you for the unlock code. Enter the 8 or 16 digit unlock code we provided and then press enter to confirm (only enter the unlock code once!!!). You should get a "code accepted" message. Your phone is now unlocked!

8) Once unlocked Turn All Connections ON.
9) Please reset your phone. You can do this in two ways: 1) remove the battery while the phone is on, insert SIM as desired and re-insert the battery. OR 2) You can press and hold ALT+RIGHT SHIFT+Backspace/Delete in that order.

Please note: If you plan on using your Blackberry with another carrier/network, please make sure your phone is compatible with the carrier/network you wish to transfer to. Please call the carrier or visit their website to find this information. When you plan on using another carrier please make sure that you follow the instructions located in the first posting on this page.

C. Press Escape/Return to go back to the Home Screen
D. Follow the instuctions to unlock your phone

4) Go to SIM Card

Note: Remove any SIM that is currently in the phone.

Exception: If phone says "code error" and the attempts stay the same (you start off with 10 attempts and still says 10 attempts after you enter the code) then continue with the instructions, this is just a glitch on the phone and your phone will still be unlocked. 7) Type in "mep2" and another screen will pop-up prompting for the MEP (MEP2) code (Please note that you will NOT see what you type on the screen). Note: On the right hand side of the prompt you will see "X left", where X is the number of tries you have left to enter the code. NEVER let this number go below 4. Once you get to 0 your phone will be hard-locked.

Exception: If nothing is prompting please make sure you are selecting each button by press the screen in.

8) Enter the 8 or 16 digit unlock code and then press enter to confirm (only enter the unlock code once!!!!). You should get a "code accepted" message. Your phone is now unlocked!
